Code: TTSA/21/0058 NQT Conference 2021

Teaching Schools South West is delighted to announce its first NQT Conference, hosted virtually on Wednesday 21st April 2021.

The conference is FREE to NQTs working within TSSW member schools, or those registered under the TSSW Appropriate Body Service.

Keynote: Making best use of evidence
Lorwyn Randall & Helen Thorneycroft

Few would disagree that research has a role to play in how we approach teaching, but what does being ‘evidence-informed’ really mean in practice?

In this session, participants will explore the principles of making and acting on evidence-informed decisions in the classroom. From this, we can develop a greater understanding of the role that ‘best bets’ play in developing our practice and how to put evidence to work in order to support planning, delivery and impact-evaluation.
In order to understand what this looks like in practice, this session will dive deeper into the example of metacognition in order to exemplify the journey ‘from evidence to impact’.

Keynote: How to start building a classroom culture
Tom Bennett

In this session for new teachers, Tom will outline the most important things to do and say when starting a new class so that students get e-learning, faster. Topics include:

* Establishing classroom norms
* Teaching routines
* The effective use of consequences
* Scripting your responses

and more! By the end of this session all participants will have a clear idea of exactly they need to focus on, so the students can focus on the learning.
